Travel Tips & How to travel light
I'm always looking for ways to lighten my luggage or carryon bag because lets be honest, we all hate having to pay for luggage and carrying heavy luggage. And especially for backpackers. So here's some quick tips for travelling light and travelling with only a carryon or travelling with a backpack!
1. Swap liquid shampoo & conditioner for solid shampoo and conditioner bars!
Not only can you put the solid shampoo and conditioner in your carryon and it wont count towards your "liquids", its more compact so it doesn't take as much room in your bag, its super light, it lasts long for those who travel for months. Also because its in solid form, you don't have to ever worry about opening your bag to everything covered in shampoo.... speaking from experience lol.
2. Switching almost everything to solid form. You'd be surprised what you can find in solid or powder forms! If you aren't sure on something, just google the product you're looking for and add "solid" to the beginning.
Here are some ideas for your other products you can switch from liquid to solid:
Liquid soap - solid soap
Foaming/ liquid shave cream - shave bar
Liquid lotion - solid lotion
Liquid toothpaste - tablets or powder
Face mask - powder face mask and just add water
Dry shampoo bottle - powder dry shampoo
Lip gloss - lip balm
Perfume/ fragrance - solid fragrance
Makeup remover - solid makeup remover or wipes
Comment if you have any other suggestions!
3. Make sure to have all your products in see-through ziploc bags
This ensures if any of your products do open up/ melt, lids come off, it doesn't get on any of your clothes/electronics etc. Also this makes the airport super easy for them to look at everything quickly.
4. You don't need 16 shirts & 12 bathing suites
Let's be honest, we all have our favorite outfits that we wear for multiple days while travelling because no one will notice. Pack your favorite comfiest outfit that you can wear for multiple occasions. Remember, in most cases you can do laundry while abroad.
5. Check where you are staying for amenities
Whether your staying in a hotel/ motel/ airbnb/ vrbo/ resort etc. you can see what they provide like soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair blow dryer,
6. Get as much done before you travel
For example, so you don't have to bring nail polish, nail polish remover, nail files, nail clippers etc. etc. Just get gel or acrylic nails done before hand. Get waxed, get eyelash extensions, get a tan, get a perm (if people are still doing these??) anyways, you get the idea.
7. Swap the heavy curling rod for a sponge curling rod
Recently I switched from using a curling rod to a Heatless Hair Curling Rod which not only is it super light and compact, it makes BEAUTIFUL curls. And depending on the hairstyle you're going for, you can have beachy waves or tight curls. This has been an absolute game changer. Don't have to worry about plugins, cords, heavy hair stuff, taking forever to get your hair ready, the list goes on.
